Did anyone ever say being
a parent was easy? Children don't come with a manual and parents
invariably make it up as they go along; but you don't have to
be alone. We invariably love them to bits, but struggle with how
to communicate with growing teenagers and often wish we had other
insights and advice available to be able to support these developing
adults. The objective of this group is to enable parents to learn
some tips and techniques to help them succeed and have pride in
their achievements as a parent.
It matters not whether your
children are brilliant or struggling at school. This group is
to assist you as parents, and by giving you support enable you
to better cope with all the issues that arise. The group is deliberately
not affiliated to one particular school, as it is not a pressure
group and does not address specific pupil issues.
As we are not a charity,
then we must make a minimal charge to cover the cost of accommodation
and external speakers who offer specialist skills, e.g. how to
support your child through bullying, what help is available from
child support, coping with bereavement, homework motivation and
support. We expect the group to have changing requirements as
it develops and will endeavor to match these requirements with
available support from within or external to the group. The style
of the group will be to focus on the positives and where our good
experiences can help others.
Confidentiality is imperative,
everyone being known by their first name, the names of their children
and school should always be withheld by parents. We respect people's
space and listen to each other, with no sexism, racism or genderism.
We feel OK about saying as little or as much as we like, respecting
others' time.
